2008 Mercury Retrogrades
When a planet goes retrograde, it appears like it’s moving backwards from our perspective on Earth. Though planets never really go backwards, of course, this visual phenomenon has proven to have some definite effects on us Earthly Beings!
When retrograde, the normal expression of the planet is delayed or out of sync with the normal progression of events. Consequently, anything initiated or panned during a retrograde period will often be delayed or more difficult to get off the ground than usual. This typically clears and things get back on schedule, flowing more easily, after the retrograde period is over and the planet is once again in direct motion.
As the planet of communications, Mercury retrograde often has the effect of more mis-communicating than usual or a delay in communications – like writing or receiving e-mails, letters, phone calls, mistakes or omissions in contracts, and the like. There is a greater possibility of misunderstanding during these times, so take care to be as clear as possible in your communications, and save initiating any big projects or signing contracts until after the retrograde is over, if you can. Mercury also rules travel, so keep your car in good shape, allow extra time to get where you’re going, and, if flying, be ready for delayed flights and make sure your baggage is well-identified or better yet, just take a carry on so it doesn’t get lost!
Mercury retrograde periods are wonderful for re-evaluating, re-looking, reflecting – about most any “re” word you can think of! So, do use these times for reflecting on your life and intentions, making sure they’re in alignment with what you truly desire to manifest in your life.
Mercury goes retrograde about three times a year for approximately three weeks at a time.
